Burnout fabric is a printing process in which chemicals are used to destroy specific fiber components in blended, twisted or interwoven fabrics to create distinctive patterns. The surface of this fabric has a concave and convex pattern, a clear outline, a smooth feel, and a translucent visual effect .
The process used blended fabrics, which combine protein-based fibers such as silk with cellulose-based fibers such as cotton or rayon. This is used to generate the "burnout" pattern. A sodium hydrogen sulphate gel is applied to a certain fabric in patterns. This then dissolves the cellulose fibers, leaving the protein-based ones behind. The chemicals do not affect the protein fibers. The gel is applied to the fabric by painting it or printing it by hand.

Precautions for use of Process Fabric
Different fabrics require different treatments. Some fabrics, like silk and wool, are more delicate and may need extra care, while others, like polyester and nylon, are more durable and easier to maintain.
When it comes to washing your fabrics, always follow the care instructions on the label. Use a gentle detergent and avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can weaken the fibers and cause damage. For delicate fabrics, consider hand washing or using a gentle cycle on your washing machine.
Choosing the right drying method is essential for preventing shrinkage and maintaining the integrity of your fabrics. Air drying is often the safest option, especially for delicate fabrics. If you're using a dryer, use a low heat setting and remove the fabrics while they're still slightly damp to prevent over-drying.
Ironing and steaming can help remove wrinkles and keep your fabrics looking crisp and neat. However, it's essential to use the appropriate heat setting for each fabric type to avoid scorching or damaging the fibers. Alternatively, invest in a garment steamer for a gentler way to remove wrinkles without the risk of burning.
Proper storage is key to preserving your fabrics when they're not in use. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration. Consider using breathable garment bags or storage bins to protect your fabrics from dust, moisture, and pests.
